APSU College of Business Announces 2022 AJ Taylor Distinguished Professorship Awards

CLARKSVILLE, TN — The Austin Peay State University College of Business recently announced the recipients of the 2022 AJ Taylor Distinguished Professorship Award, the college’s most prestigious recognition given to professors.

The 2022 winners are:

  • Teaching Excellence: Dr. Jennifer Thayer, Assistant Professor of Accounting
  • Research Excellence: Dr. Matt Hampton, Assistant Professor of Economics

“During her time at APSU, Dr. Thayer became a campus leader in developing innovative learning experiences, including the service-learning partnership with the Internal Revenue Service and United Way of Greater Nashville. “said Dr. Mickey Hepner, Dean of the College. business, said. “The partnership provides free tax preparation services to residents of Montgomery County while providing practical application skills to accounting students.

“Dr. Hampton continues to demonstrate an ability to produce quality research that has resulted in three publications in A-rated journals over the past three years,” Hepner continued. “Two of these publications appeared in health economicsthe leading academic journal in health economics.

Each year, the award recognizes two APSU College of Business faculty members who demonstrate outstanding scholarly work or innovative teaching practices that contribute to the College’s mission. The endowment gift was donated by alumnus Larry Carroll, who dedicated the award to former professor of marketing, Dr. Albert J. Taylor, for his legacy of outstanding contributions that transformed the College of Business.

“In all my years, both as an undergraduate and graduate student, AJ Taylor provided the best classroom experience I have ever received,” Carroll said. “I am proud that these two faculty members are continuing his legacy by producing engaged graduates ready to leave their mark in the community. The College of Business and Austin Peay will surely benefit from the commitment to excellence that the winners have demonstrated.

This fall celebrates the sixth year since the creation of the chair, also the first in the history of APSU. Each recipient received a commemorative plaque and a stipend to further support their academic endeavors.

“We are thrilled to see the work of Dr. Albert J Taylor being continued by these dedicated and innovative individuals,” said Vice President for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy Kris Phillips. “Through his gift for this distinguished faculty position, Larry Carroll has provided APSU College of Business with a meaningful way to honor and retain its outstanding faculty. We appreciate his continued generosity.
