A Salina-based pet sitting company has been accepted into a global industry organization.

Adventures In Pet Sitting was recently accepted as a member of Pet Sitters International (PSI), an organization of nearly 7,000 independent professional pet sitting services in the United States, Canada and internationally. Founded in 1994, PSI is the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters.

According to Salina, joining PSI has reinforced their commitment to providing quality, professional pet care services and increased their knowledge of the pet care industry.

MiKayla Anders started the company more than three years ago after earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Ecosphere Studies from Kansas Wesleyan University. Since the start of the business, more than 200 dogs, 60 cats, several exotic birds, fish, ducks and other pets have been cared for where they feel most comfortable. their house.

“I’m proud to be part of Pet Sitters International and to be part of a great group of professionals around the world who have a passion, like mine, for caring for animals,” Anders said. “I grew up a few miles from the Rolling Hills Zoo and was a junior zookeeper at the zoo. I have also worked with a wide variety of animals at the Sedgwick County Zoo and worked for a dog daycare. I am grateful to all my loyal customers and the animals I work with day in and day out. »

For pet owners, in-home pet sitting offers a unique alternative to boarding houses or having family or neighbors look after pets. Pet sitters come to the house daily and pets can keep their usual routines for meals, walks, medications and individual care and attention. Owners report that their animals experience less stress and adapt better to their owners’ absence when the animals remain in their normal environment.

As a member of PSI, Anders has access to important business tools and educational resources, including liability insurance for pet sitters, PSI’s certificate program, ongoing online training, and the conference and PSI’s annual Pet Caretaker Education Expo.

According to PSI President Patti Moran, more and more people are now advertising pet sitting services, so it’s important for pet owners to make sure they choose a qualified pet sitter and professional.

“We encourage pet owners to only use the services of professional pet sitters and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with using a PSI insured and bonded pet sitting business” , Moran said.
