Free work preparation, Tech-Voc training for 125 out-of-school youth in Cebu city

The School of Knowledge for Industrial Work, Leadership and Service (Skills) provides free work preparation and technical and vocational training (TVET) to 125 out of school youth (OSY). OSYs aged 18-24 and residents of Cebu City are encouraged to apply.

The Work Ready Now training program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Education Development Center (EDC) as part of the five-year USAID Opportunity 2.0 project. -Second Chance Opportunities for Out-of-School Youth Project.

Successful applicants will undergo a comprehensive job preparation program that covers 21st century skills, workplace learning, be your own boss, peer coaching and career counseling. They will also choose one of these five Tesda TVET courses offered by Skills: Masonry NC II, Reinforcing Steel Works NC II, Tile Setting NC II, Plumbing NC II and System Formworks NC II. This program is designed to nurture the habit of lifelong learning that would improve education, livelihoods and employment opportunities for OSYs. There will be five promotions of interns from July 2021 to March 2022.

Trainees will take lectures, labs, hands-on training, and workplace and community immersions. The training methodology should be blended, such as face-to-face sessions, peer coaching and mentoring and self-learning using modules developed by EDC and a management system Learning (LMS) built by Skills. The LMS, skills-ph.com, is accessible to learners using a computer, tablet or smartphone. These training methodologies ensure the health and safety of OSYs and trainers.

To qualify, applicants can be undergraduates, junior high or senior high school graduates. College-level OSYs are also hired provided they have not been employed in the past six months. OSY must be in good physical shape and be committed to the training which lasts four to six months. Most importantly, they must commit to pursuing employment, entrepreneurship, or further education after the training.

Skills works with companies to ensure immediate employment for successful interns. During the duration of the training, trainees will receive uniforms, documents, personal protective equipment and a limited allowance.
