This fall semester, students at Cleveland State Community College will be able to explore the newly renovated Mary T. Barker Humanities Building. The renovation of the humanities was part of the college revitalization project. The total cost of the project was $ 25 million, of which $ 2.5 million came from fundraising and $ 22.5 million from state funding.

“We are delighted to have both the new construction of the Health and Science Center as well as this renovated state-of-the-art humanities building now open for our students and faculty,” said Alisha Fox, vice -President of Finance and Chief Operating Officer at CSCC. “This project was a collaborative effort with the contribution of faculty, staff and others during the planning phases in 2018-2019. The building has the latest and greatest technology for enhanced in-person and distance learning. New furniture, windows and lighting make this building comfortable and efficient. The Humanities Renovation is the first in a long series on the main CSCC campus.

A budget of $ 3 million has been established for the building to receive improvements for design, construction and equipment. The renovations included $ 150,000 in classroom technology upgrades, such as new display panels and cosmetic makeovers including new paint, flooring and furniture. Approximately $ 50,000 was used to install high performance WIFI and fiber upgrades.

Most of the rooms in the building have been renovated, including ten classrooms, three computer labs, a boardroom, a boardroom, six toilets, 24 offices and a brand new Dean’s Suite. Security upgrades included self-locking exterior doors and security cameras.

The CSCC invites anyone who would like to see the new renovations to visit the campus for a tour.
