To help reduce the health risks of COVID during the exam period, the university is adjusting exams for the remainder of the December 2021 exam period and is introducing precautionary measures with certain operations on campus, at as of Monday, December 13. We know this is short notice for those whose exams are scheduled for Monday, and we are reaching out to instructors with advice to make this transition as smooth as possible.

UVic made this decision in consultation with Island Health. Throughout the fall academic term, UVic worked closely with government and public health experts to keep the academic community healthy and safe, while fulfilling its academic mission. teaching, learning, research and community engagement.

While we had a successful return to campus this term, we recognize the unique situation of the exam period for our students and the new trends we are seeing with COVID-19 cases.

In-person exams

In order to reduce the frequency and number of students sitting together for long periods of time in gymnasiums and exam rooms, we will not be hosting other in-person exams and are asking instructors to submit their evaluations online or in another format.

The increased flexibility to offer exams online or in other formats will ensure that students can progress in their studies and meet the academic demands of their programs.

Students are reminded not to come to campus for any reason if they are not feeling well or if they are an identified close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Timely academic consideration will be given in these cases through the academic grant application.

Your instructors will contact you via Brightspace or email to let you know how your ratings have changed. If you have any questions about the assessments of a particular course, please contact your instructor (s) directly.

Raised Services and other administrative and support services

All student, administrative and support services on campus will continue to operate with hours of operation, service and staff levels for the period of regular reviews, and measures of the COVID-19 security plan.

To research

Research centers, laboratories and related support activities and services will also continue to operate in accordance with their COVID-19 safety plans on campus.

Study spaces

Meetings

Units are encouraged to hold online meetings until the end of the term, where possible. If you are meeting in person, remember to wear a mask at all times. Participants can only remove their masks when they are seated and if they are able to maintain a physical distance of 2m from others.

In-person social events

Social events on campus and in person for employees and students, including holiday season and other social gatherings, are to be canceled or postponed until further notice.

Athletics and recreation and varsity sports

The Athletics and Recreation Center (CARSA) will remain open with enhanced health and safety measures. As an added precaution, training for all varsity sports has been suspended until further notice.

Dining rooms

Students living in residence will continue to have access to the MOD dining room and must follow all health and safety measures in place.

Retail Food Stores

Retail food locations on campus will be primarily take-out with limited seating and physically remote.

COVID-19 testing options for students

Our university population has done a tremendous job getting vaccinated, but it is always important to monitor ourselves for symptoms and to refrain from congregating if we are not feeling well, to help protect family and friends. .

We understand that implementing these additional precautionary measures may make the end of the term more difficult, and we thank you for your contribution and commitment to the health and well-being of the University community.
