We are looking for a Technical Business Analyst to join the R&D team in order to

  • Provide analyst support for data experiments and software development
  • Ensure that experiments and developments contribute to Europeana’s objectives in terms of improving (meta) data and improving services
  • Support the work of our R&D and product teams

Main responsibilities

  • Support the involvement of the Europeana R&D team in the Europeana Translate project, in particular:
    • Support the collection of use cases and technical specifications for the integration of machine translation services into Europeana (meta) data flows
    • Select the appropriate training (meta) data for machine translation systems and provide guidance during training
    • Coordinate evaluation activities (quality assessment) for project results
    • Coordinate and write the relevant project deliverables (reports)
  • Support the involvement of the R&D team in other Europeana projects (including CRAFTED, Europeana Subtitled, EnrichEuropeana +) which use AI technology, including:
    • Advise and support project partners and other Europeana teams on the deployment of AI technology (including machine translation and other natural language processing systems) in the context of Europeana. Depending on the project, this may include advice on training AI systems and applying trained models, validation (human in the loop) and plugging data and services into Europeana architecture.
    • Support the dissemination of results and capacity building activities related to these projects in the Europeana network, in particular in the EuropeanaTech community

Secondary responsibilities

  • Advise colleagues and partners working on other projects on activities related to key responsibilities
  • Liaise and coordinate with other relevant R&D and data ingestion or enrichment efforts in the Europeana network and elsewhere

Knowledge and experience

  • Strong data and business analysis skills – understanding of data and the complex and heterogeneous applications that can be built on it, ability to find relevant data for experiments
  • Experience in managing and analyzing data and relevant tools – or ability to learn to use these tools
  • An interest in culture and making the digital treasures of European libraries, archives and museums accessible to all
  • Good written and oral communication skills – Fluency in English and preferably another European language
  • Education: Master’s degree or higher in computer science, digital humanities, business informatics or other relevant discipline, or equivalent experience

In addition, it is a plus if you have experience / knowledge of

  • Programming, scripting and data query languages
  • Highly multilingual data
  • Evaluation / benchmarking
  • Data standards and practices in libraries, archives and museums (metadata formats, thesauri and other controlled vocabularies)
  • Work as part of a project, work with Scrum and user stories
  • The concepts of Semantic Web and Linked Data (for example, the query language SPARQL) and the data available through these channels (for example, Wikidata)
  • Recent AI developments and tools

Salary and benefits

Your gross monthly salary will be between 2,900 and 3,500 EUR (based on full-time employment), depending on your level of experience.

  • In addition, you will receive a vacation allowance (prorated) of 8% and an annual bonus (year-end, prorated) of 8.33%.
  • 1 year fixed-term contract (part-time 0.5 FTE) with possibility of extension
  • We offer 42.25 vacation days per year (based on full-time employment)
