Tate & Lyle, a leading global supplier of food and beverage ingredients and solutions, announces that it has renewed its support of the Enders-Salk Elementary School Free Breakfast Program for a sixth consecutive year . The school is based in Hoffman Estates, home to Tate & Lyle’s Global Business and Food Innovation Center.

The partnership between Tate & Lyle and Enders-Salk is part of the District 54 Education Foundation’s Food 4 Thought program, which finds sponsors for schools wishing to provide students in the federal free lunch program with a nutritious breakfast to help them start the day ready to learn.

Over the past five years, Tate & Lyle has provided more than 50,000 nutritious breakfasts to Enders-Salk School students who qualify for the federal free lunch program, representing approximately 30% of the student body.

Mike Henry, Principal of Enders-Salk Elementary School, said, “Meals are an essential key to student success, but just as important is the personal connection we can make with partners like Tate & Lyle. Our friends at Tate & Lyle have enriched our school over the past five years in so many ways and we are delighted to kick off our sixth year with one of our favorite events: our annual science fair. »

As well as supporting breakfast as part of the partnership, the local Tate & Lyle team fosters mentorship and connection through nutrition education sessions, planting and harvesting support in the garden of school, shares career advice and judges the annual school-wide science fair which returned this spring after a two-year hiatus.

This year, 120 projects were submitted to the science fair – a new record – with prizes awarded to the top six projects and students:

We are passionate about food and sharing what a career in science can look like for students – it’s a winning combination. I also want to congratulate everyone who attended this year’s show, the standard was incredibly high, as always.

School District 54 Community Relations Administrative Assistant Meagan Kasper said:

“Tate & Lyle has been a longtime partner in ensuring that students in District 54 start their day ready to learn. Throughout the pandemic, when many families, communities and even businesses struggled and had to reduce their expenses, they have remained true to their commitment to ensuring access to meals for our students, whether through their initial commitment to our breakfast program or their flexible pivot to help the food pantries of District 54, they have pledged their support. But the financial hardship has not ceased with the remission of the pandemic, there is a continued and growing need in our community. We are grateful for the partnership of Tate & Lyle and are delighted to welcome them back. in our schools to connect with the students whose lives they continue to impact.
