SPRINGFIELD – US Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today virtually met Dr. Kenneth Polonsky, President of UChicago Medicine Health System, and Dr. Kunle Odunsi, Director of UChicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, at the subject of the new comprehensive cancer control program at the University of Chicago. Cancer Center (UCMC). During the call, Durbin spoke about federal funding to support the hospital’s mission and the institution’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) designation as a comprehensive cancer center. UCMC is the only university medical center in Illinois with a facility dedicated exclusively to cancer research and treatment.

“When Americans face a health crisis like cancer, they need a team of doctors and specialists they can trust to provide the best possible treatment. I am proud of the work Dr Polonsky and Dr Odunsi are doing to bring the Comprehensive Cancer Center to Illinois and care for families in need ”, said Durbin. “With the revolutionary research and medical technology taking place here in Illinois, I will continue to advocate for federal funding and resources to support the hospital’s mission. “
