CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Chrystalla Mouza has been named dean of the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign effective August 15, pending approval from the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. . His title until officially approved shall be Dean of the Designated College of Education. Mouza is director and professor emeritus of teacher education specializing in educational technology at the School of Education at the University of Delaware, and professor of computer and information science at Delaware’s College of Engineering.

Mouza earned an Ed.D., M.Ed. and MA in Instructional Technology and Media in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and completed postdoctoral work at the Educational Testing Service. She has expertise in learning sciences and teacher learning, applications of technology in K-12 classrooms, teaching and learning outcomes in pervasive and mobile computing environments. and computer education.

“Dr. Mouza shared her clear vision for the advancement of our College of Education. teaching, research and engagement, and she has a proven track record in research,” said Illinois Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Andreas Cangelaris. “Dr. Mouza will be an exceptional leader in this role.

Mouza is a principal investigator on several National Science Foundation-funded projects to advance computer science education through enduring partnerships, teacher professional development, and community engagement. She has also served as a principal investigator on several projects funded by the Delaware Department of Education to improve teacher quality in disadvantaged schools. Previously, she was a scientist-in-training on two National Science Foundation projects aimed at improving climate change education by providing effective professional development for teachers. Mouza has received several awards, including the 2010 Distinguished Research in Teacher Education Award from the Association of Teacher Educators.

In addition to publishing her own work in key media, Mouza is the editor of the journal Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education. She is also a member of the editorial board of various journals, including Review of Educational Research, Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, and Journal of Research on Technology in Education. She provides editorial assistance to many other journals, conferences and book publications.
