Most Indians Spent 522 Hours Online Education In Pandemic Year, Poll Finds

During the pandemic year, most Indians spent an average of over 522 hours on online education and over 738 hours on infotainment on their smartphones, according to a new report released on Monday.

While 56% of smartphone users have signed up for new online education programs since the start of the pandemic, 58% of smartphone users have made digital transactions on their smartphones, according to CyberMediaResearch (CMR ), a Gurugram-based market research company.

Indians spend an average of around Rs 8,500, mostly on digital payments per month and 28% of smartphone users spend around Rs 1,000 on infotainment per month.

“Whether it’s online education, digital payments or infotainment consumption, the smartphone has empowered consumers from all urban and ambitious sectors (Tier III cities and beyond),” said Prabhu Ram, Head-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR.

“For value-conscious buyers of the below Rs 7,000 smartphone segment, smartphone brands have always focused on providing increasingly accessible and affordable smartphones,” he added.

When buying their next smartphone, consumers trust the recommendations of their loved ones (79%) as well as retailers (77%).

As for the city, itel smartphone brand is 100% satisfied in Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Guwahati, realme is 100% satisfied in Delhi, Kolkata and Jaipur, and Xiaomi is 100% satisfied in Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Indore .

Samsung wins for ease of availability, product quality and good after-sales service, the survey noted.

“For consumers in the smartphone segment below INR 7,000, the top three considerations for smartphones are affordability, affordability and availability. They trust smartphone brands that offer durable devices, focus on trendy smartphone specifications and provide reliable after-sales service, “said Satya Sundar Mohanty, Group Leader of Industry Advisory Group (ICG), CMR.
