Ongoing support from Bank of America now enables Lutheran Services Florida to provide free flu vouchers to its customers.

Jacquie Matthews Williams, Outreach and Mentorship Coordinator for Lutheran Services Florida, said Bank of America was a great community partner. During the pandemic, they provided face masks, gloves and disinfectant on several occasions to help staff and customers.

“We have worked with them for the COVID precautionary measures”, she said, adding that when they asked if they wanted to participate in the flu voucher program, they jumped on board.

With the Bank of America and CVS partnership, Lutheran Services Florida customers have the option to redeem free flu vouchers from October 11 through March 31, 2022. The vouchers, which children can also use, can be redeemed at CVS or MinuteClinic pharmacy. A digital option is also available.

“Without them (Bank of America) this could not have happened. We are very grateful and grateful to Bank of America for including us in this project ”, Williams said.

She said the voucher program is great for their clients, as some may not be able to afford a private doctor to get their flu shot or may have transportation issues.

“Transport plays a central role in what people can and cannot do” Williams said.

With the voucher at CVS it comes in handy, as she said there is a CVS in the neighborhoods where their clients live.

Vouchers can be found in all of their programs, such as Lutheran Services Florida Case Management Organization, Comprehensive Refugee Services, and OASIS Youth Center. She said they gave the vouchers to the offices so they could distribute them to those who would like to get a flu shot from October 11.

Lutheran Services Florida, a nonprofit organization, offers a variety of programs, such as early childhood education, youth shelters, foster families, refugee and resettlement services, addiction, mental health services and guardianship of adults.

She started working with Lutheran Services Florida six years ago and recently got involved with Comprehensive Refugee Services.

“When I saw refugees arrive, and for them, the things that they could do just to be free, are things that I take for granted”, Williams said.

Refugees, who are their clients, receive all their legal services free of charge. Customers also receive ESOL vouchers for learning English.

“Languages are sometimes the barrier. While waiting for their work permit, they can take English lessons ”, Williams said.
