LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky College of Art + Design (KyCAD) recently announced five new members to the Board of Trustees.

“Each new member of the Board of Directors brings personalized experience and expertise to our college, as well as a diverse background,” said KyCAD President Moira Scott Payne. “We look forward to continuing to build on KyCAD’s strong educational foundation with these great leaders from Louisville at the helm. “

  • Barbara Sexton Smith served as City Councilor for Louisville’s 4th Metro District until January 2021 and is currently campaign chair to elect Craig Greenberg as Louisville’s next mayor. Sexton Smith is a Board Member of Simmons College of Kentucky, KyCAD Board Member and Founder of the Barbara Sexton Smith Educational Improvement Endowment Fund. She has helped raise over $ 220 million in philanthropic funds while working with Fund for the Arts, Metro United Way, Olmsted Parks Conservancy, National Conference for Community and Justice, West Louisville Boys and Girls Choirs, Community Hunger Walk and many more. others.
  • Elizabeth Perry Spalding is a graphic designer and director of award-winning 21 Skye Design. Spalding works with small businesses, nonprofits, artists and independent publishers to create branding and print identity design materials including book projects, annual reports, exhibition catalogs, brochures and websites. Spalding is Director of AIGA Louisville (American Institute of Graphic Arts), is a member of the Speed ​​Art Museum Board of Governors and sponsor of the Louisville Photo Biennial.
  • Yamilca Rodriguez is a brand strategist and TEDx speaker who worked as Senior Design Director for the Procter & Gamble Company for 13 years and has since started her own consulting business, focused on branding and design. Rodriguez brings relevant experience to her new role on the Board of Directors as Founder of Louisville Bespoke, a fashion-centric community that supports designers and creatives with an annual fashion showcase. She also teaches a Design Thinking and Business Innovation course at the University of Louisville and is involved with the National Society for Hispanic MBAs and the Fund for the Arts.
  • DeVon Hankins joins the KyCAD Board of Directors with training in strategic planning, business operations and project management. Hankins brings extensive experience leading cross-functional business teams in areas such as finance, marketing, and agribusiness. She has also accumulated over 25 years of leadership experience in the military, federal, state and local fields. Hankins has directed and supervised social programs, management systems, regulatory practices and legislative programs. Currently, she is CEO of Ascension Strategies, a strategic performance company dedicated to supporting start-ups in scaling their businesses and mid-level professionals wishing to move to an advanced position or a new one. career.
  • Joshua Watkins is the Executive Director of the Louisville Metropolitan Government’s Office of Performance Improvement and brings his real estate and community development expertise to the KyCAD Board of Directors. Watkins worked for the Louisville Metropolitan Government for more than seven years, where he led efforts in urban revitalization, project management, public safety and performance improvement. He is also involved with the Friends of the Waterfront Board of Directors.
