Background: Gates is entering her fifth year as a manager at Donlon. Prior to her tenure there, she was Vice-Principal at Lydiksen Elementary School for two years and spent a year in a dual role of Vice-Principal at Lydiksen Elementary and Hearst Elementary Schools. She also taught middle school and high school science. Although she was born in Oklahoma, her family moved to California when she was only one month old and she considers herself a Californian.
