How HPU helped you get there: “HPU prepared me for my future career by instilling professionalism in students from day one. Whether at the Career and Professional Development Office or in a course, I learned the importance of networking, internships, interview skills and more. These tips are at the heart of HPU’s training and have driven me to achieve my goals.

Most Impactful Mentor at HPU: “At HPU, I was fortunate to have faculty and staff who invested time and energy in me and my future. My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Jenny Lukow. Even before I was a student on campus, Dr. Lukow was in my corner. She was my biggest cheerleader, my academic advisor, the club advisor for the Sport Management Association while I was president, one of my favorite teachers, a podcast co-host and the list goes on. HPU’s Sport Management program was my second home, thanks to Dr. Lukow.

Most memorable moment at HPU: “My most defining moment at HPU was not necessarily a moment but several days with one person. During my first year, Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, joined HPU as Athletic Director-in-Residence. Ever since I met her in freshman year, Cynt became my mentor, role model, and inspiration. My favorite time of year on campus was when she came to visit me. In my senior year, I participated in an externship experience with the Mavs in Dallas, TX It was by far the best part of my college experience because of the knowledge, ideas and relationships I created!”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “The inspiring environment at HPU is created by the faculty and staff. Their encouragement and constant support inspired me to pursue internships and apply for my position at Learfield. They motivated me when I was not confident.

What life skills did HPU help you develop that set you up for long-term success? “While at HPU, I served as a peer career counselor in the Office of Career and Professional Development. I learned how to write an intriguing cover letter and developed my interview skills When I was last interviewed for my position, I was invited to lunch and felt extremely prepared after attending interview seminars at 1924 PRIME. of ‘fine dining’, when we went to lunch I thought about table skills, communication skills and proper etiquette.”

Hints for subclasses: “Get over there! Make sure you’re still in touch with alumni who work in your field, people on LinkedIn, and especially the people you work with on internship. If you don’t know how to do this yet, use HPU’s resources to understand the process and connect with alumni! »
