Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday pledged that he would provide free education to every child born in the Punjab if his party, the Aam Aadmi party, was elected to power in the Punjab.

He also said that if the AAP forms a government in Punjab, his government will give 1 crore rupees free of charge to the military and paramilitary martyrs.

The Delhi Chief Minister is currently visiting the Punjab and he visited the Punjab Pathankot with CM Manish Sisodia MP from Delhi, AAP MP Raghav Chaddha and Punjab Party leader Bhagwat Mann.

Kejriwal spoke of the improvement his government has made in Delhi, be it in education, water supply or free electricity available to people consuming less than 200 units. The Delhi CM said his government has also registered several firsts in community medicine with mohalla clinics.

In Punjab, he promised mohalla clinics in every village in the state, he said. Kejriwal mocked Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi for calling him kaala. “What if I was dark? Kaale hai toh kya hua dil waale hain ”, echoing Mehmood’s famous song.

The AAP is on a roll in its attempt to wrest power from the Punjab and organized a dedicated campaign for the state a few months before the state legislature elections in 2022. Kejriwal made four more promises early, the Rs 1 crore martyrs sop is the fifth such pledge.

In the 2017 polls, the AAP claimed power but ended up with 20 seats. The lessons learned in 2017 seem to help the AAP since this time the party has put its national aspirations on the back burner, with the exception of Punjab and Goa.
