From Wednesday, December 22, 2021, the UN campus will enter the annual vacation closure, resuming normal campus activities on Monday, January 3, 2022, for the start of the 3 week January session (January 3) followed by the start of the Spring semester 2022 (January 24). Ahead of the holiday season, UN Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, shared a holiday post with all the Mavericks.

Maverick family,

As we come to the end of the semester and move into the holiday season, I want to take a moment to celebrate you and all that you have done to make this year a year to be remembered for UNO.

We have made great strides in helping meet workforce needs through our STEM education, established multiple partnerships with the Department of Defense, built on the UN’s strong track record in research and development. creative activity, and earned the Gold Seal for Excellent Student Voter Engagement to name a few! I’m really proud of how we’ve shown the world what the UN Maverick Spirit is. Please join me in celebrating all we have done in taking stock of this year.

To our Maverick alumni, know that even as you step into the next chapter of your journey, you will always be a part of the Maverick family.

To our students who will return in the new year, take advantage of this break! You have won a chance to rest, relax and spend time with your family and friends. I wish you all a good warm vacation, so you can come back ready to do great things. When planning the next semester, be sure to visit the academic counseling site to find your counselor or the MavTRACK page to schedule a counseling appointment.

To our faculty and staff, as a thank you for all you have done this year, I invite you and your families to enjoy the “Happy and Bright” holiday show at Lauritzen Gardens. This enchanting experience is offered to you free of charge and will take place from December 18 to January 3! More information can be found on the holiday event page.

While on vacation it is important to take care of each other, but also just as important to take care of yourself. While we might not be together in person, remember your Maverick family is always there for you! For our teachers and staff, mental health resources are available to you through the Teacher and Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP), and for students, our office of the Psychological Counseling and Services Office (CAPS) ) is available if you need to access mental health support by calling 402.554.2409 and pressing 2. Also make sure you stay healthy during the break by testing yourself for COVID symptoms -19 with the 1-Check UNO app and staying on top of campus COVID-19 response tips as you prepare to return to campus.

Thank you for everything you have done to meet the challenges of this year and find new opportunities to strengthen our community. These are really the people who make UNO so special, and each of you has helped write a truly amazing story that I feel so privileged to share with the world.

Have an amazing, safe and healthy vacation and best wishes for the new year.

Happy Holidays,

Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA

UN Chancellor
